Tony Baulos has been a bit of a regular in the programming scene round Being involved with the various meetups, Tony has decided to take the helm of the newest addition to the lineup with Swift Augusta. Meet Tony!

I had the opportunity to attend a few events here and there (PyNight and SQL) and have always recognized the positive benefits. Joining also gave me a little more push to attend events and learn from the community!

2: Describe the moment you decided what you wanted to do when you grew up?

I have yet to fully decide. I am having too much fun with family and work.

3: What do you do in your current work?

I have spent several years authoring educational materials for classroom teachers with a focus on mathematics. About three years ago I wrote a few apps in objective-C that packaged some of my math question sets for the iPhone/iPad.  Have started as I move more of my time to iOS App Development.

4: What is an expertise you have that you would like to share with others?

I have enjoyed mentoring a few student code/chess clubs and recently have been encouraged to see if Augusta might be interested in a Swift/iOS programming meetup. What better place to test the waters than

5: What are you tinkering with at the moment?

Developing a new app focused on helping primary grade students learn their sight words by encapsulating them in 6 mini-games using Swift, Sprite-Kit and UI-Kit and is designed for the iPad. Teachers will be able to monitor student progress, forward results to parents, and reward students for their hard work! Also converting 5 math apps from Objective-C to Swift covering over 6,000 math questions and extending their purpose with new functionality and fun!

6: What are you interested in learning?

I hope to expand my knowledge of Google development tools. I recently implemented Firebase as a CocoaPod for authentication/database/AdMob. I also enjoy being a member of the PyAugusta and JavaScript meetups.

7: What is your favorite sci-fi movie?

While I love many of the movie adaptations, my true favorites are still best in book form.  Love anything by Isaac Asimov and hope that one day his Foundation series will make it to the screen.

8: If you have not lived all of your life in Augusta, where else have you lived?

First 16 years in the Midwest(IL, MO, IN), Second 16 years in Birmingham, Alabama.

9: If you could see one thing happen in Augusta in the next 5 – 10 years, what would it be?

I look forward to seeing what the tech scene will become and how facilities like can serve as incubators to anyone who has passion to build something new!
10: Core Values are: Risk Boldly, Honor Your Commitments, Be Worthy of Trust, Give More Than You Take, and Share Solutions. Which core value do you best exemplify and why?

I struggle with the Risk Boldly (except that one time I jumped out of a plane) but have always strived to always live up to my word.

Located in a historic 1802 Schoolhouse, our space is divided into two wings. One for learning and prototyping, and one for coworking and business incubation. Our membership comes from a wide variety of backgrounds that all consider themselves some measure of hacker, maker, and doer. I am an architect. We have entrepreneurs, business people, teachers, engineers, designers, artists, and Jacks and Jill’s of all trades, and of course many software and hardware developers.
