Rachel Azevedo is constantly on, and she’s found in a space to study and be in a generally chill environment. A student at GRMedical, Rachel balances classes, studying, and tutoring. Meet Rachel!

1:    How did you come to be a member of

My boyfriend, Dan, is also a member and he encouraged me to join. I really loved the atmosphere and I knew that it was the perfect place to study.

2:    Describe the moment you decided what you wanted to do when you grew up?

Unlike some people, I didn’t have a big “AHA!” moment. I remember that it was a rainy day during my Junior year of high school and I was curled up reading a book about a doctor who basically helped a woman turn her life around. That story really stuck with me, and that’s when I realized that I also wanted to be a doctor and help make a difference in people’s lives.

3:    What do you do in your current work?

I’m currently a student at the Medical College of Georgia where I am half way through my education to become a doctor, so I basically study 24 hours a day. I also mentor undergrad students at both Augusta University and Paine College during my free time.

4:    What is an expertise you have that you would like to share with others?

I love music and singing, and I love to teach people about how to read music.

5:    What are you tinkering with at the moment?

Not much to be honest, but there is a broken vent in my car that I’ve been trying to fix for a few weeks!

6:    What are you interested in learning?

Well of course I want to learn medicine so I will be a good doctor, but besides that I’d really love to learn how to play the guitar.

7:    What is your favorite sci-fi movie?

This is my favorite genre, so it’s a bit difficult to choose just one. I’m going to have to go with ‘The Matrix’.

8:    If you have not lived all of your life in Augusta, where else have you lived?

I’m originally from Cobb County, which is about an hour north of Atlanta.

9:    If you could see one thing happen in Augusta in the next 5 – 10 years, what would it be?

There is such a big disparity in many parts of Augusta with inadequate housing, food deserts, etc. It is my hope that over the course of the next 5-10 years we will have amended these problems, or at least that we would be on the fast track to ensuring that all of the Augusta citizens have safe housing and access to healthy and affordable food.

10: Core Values are: Risk Boldly, Honor Your Commitments, Be Worthy of Trust, Give More Than You Take, and Share Solutions. Which core value do you best exemplify and why?

As a future physician, I really strive to be worthy of trust. Trust is the basis of a good patient-physician relationship, and I want to be the kind of doctor that my patients will feel comfortable opening up to because they know that I truly care about what is going on in every aspect of their lives, and not just their health.
