Festive folks came out en masse for the 2016 SantaCon Augusta on December 9th, raising $10,000 for STEM education at!

Gabriel Smith and his gung-ho SantaCon committee organized the fifth annual pub-crawl in Augusta for charity, choosing as the recipient for the second year. SantaCon Augusta began the first year with only thirty or so participants, and each year it has grown with more and more merrymakers donning their Santa garb or associated characters. Over 350 tickets were sold and a few sizable donations received, enabling to the total amount raised to surpass last year’s $7,600.

Funds raised last year were applied to the MAKE Fellowship, Sumo Robot League, PyNights, a holiday light display by area schools, and Young Makers. We’re kicking off 2017 with a month of Arduino coding for girls, initiated by Ed Elser and his daughter Melinda. We’ll be expanding the Sumo Robot League, as well as more opportunities for programming and 3D printing.

WRDW was on the scene to report live from outside Sky City right before the check was presented!

Donors and sponsors from around town helped to make this event possible! Thank you to Salon Duo, Auben Realty, Moose Pro Foto, Augusta Sports League, That Place Coffee, Beasley Broadcasting, I Know a Guy Image Solutions, and AB Beverage Co.

Thanks to all the volunteers who made this event such a success this year!

Located in a historic 1802 Schoolhouse, our space is divided into two wings. One for learning and prototyping, and one for coworking and business incubation. Our membership comes from a wide variety of backgrounds that all consider themselves some measure of hacker, maker, and doer. I am an architect. We have entrepreneurs, business people, teachers, engineers, designers, artists, and Jacks and Jill’s of all trades, and of course many software and hardware developers.
