Member Argentina Christopher recently began her business, Slumdog Writers, which will offer writing classes here at beginning in September. Argentina has studied screenwriting at NYU, worked behind the scenes with a director, and published short fiction. Additional published authors and professional teachers will round out the genres, allowing them to offer classes in screenwriting, children’s books, creative writing, fiction, and non-fiction. The classes are geared towards folks who are passionate about putting their stories to paper or screen.

The structure of the classes will be brief, fast-paced lectures followed by group exercises. Students will present chapters for the others to read and then participate in group discussions. The content students create is the foundation of the curriculum, so the expectation to produce is high. Argentina has shared that it is an engaging environment which encourages progress in your writing craft.

Classes will last for ten weeks, starting the week of September 14th and concluding the week of November 16th. Each class meets once a week for three hours in the evening from 5:30 to 8:30. In January, a new round of classes begins with new genres and six-week courses.

Located in a historic 1802 Schoolhouse, our space is divided into two wings. One for learning and prototyping, and one for coworking and business incubation. Our membership comes from a wide variety of backgrounds that all consider themselves some measure of hacker, maker, and doer. I am an architect. We have entrepreneurs, business people, teachers, engineers, designers, artists, and Jacks and Jill’s of all trades, and of course many software and hardware developers.
